Got those Mod Tool Blues? Can run the game in the most detailed settings but fail to load the Mission Editor? Well, read on for what could be some help, but please use the search on the forums for other information! Or post a new thread, with this information:
what happened (provide screenshots of major errors from places like imageshack
the warnings.log file (appropaite for the program – most have them, in various folders). If you want, remove any personal information that isn't needed if you like.
if you're feeling like its a graphical problem, post your Direct X diagnostic, by going to the Start Menu -> Run and typing in dxdiag, and then clicking Save all information and posting the new file's contents.
Getting started troubleshooting your problem
First steps to always try:
Ensure you are using a computer running Windows 2000 or XP, and with a graphics card that can run DirectX 9.
Check you have the latest DirectX version, and the latest version of your graphics drivers (which may include updating your chipsets on your motherboard, and updating your operating system with later patches).
Make sure you have the latest game patch and mod tools version installed (one after the other).
You can try reinstalling afresh – making sure to remove the entire installation directory and any remains from after uninstalling first.
Search the forums for any previous problems (include keywords describing your problem).
Not tested with absolutely every graphic card – but if your game runs, so should the ME in most cases. Integrated graphic cards seem to have the worst problems, as outlined in this thread
Crashes can occur when using the Undo function too many times (at once, or in general) and it is better to make constant backups and saves instead.
Troubleshooting
If it isn't loading, it likely is a graphical problem. Have you got a supported graphics card? the latest DirectX? the latest display drivers? If it cannot load step '' or somesuch, it will likely be this (see note on integrated graphics cards above).
The mod packager will, by default, not include the .arciv required to create SGA archives. See the Creating an SGA archive section which contains a default example file to use.
